Success
By Derek Prescott
"I wrote the poem success because that is what I have been living off of since the end of state track. If you want to reach the ultimate goal you have to be willing to sacrifice things and push through the pain.
Founded in Faith
Derek was grounded by his faith in God. It didn't matter if it was sports, school or work, Derek's faith helped him to see the good in others. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. It was also Derek's faith that drove his unparalleled work ethic. Derek was always working hard to achieve his goals in part because he was following God's plan for his life. Derek's favorite Bible verse is Colossians 3:23-24, which reads:
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Derek Prescott Memorial Scholarships

Where I'm From
By Derek Prescott
I am from a loving home
With two parents
Loving and hard-working
I am from being dedicated
From early morning and late nights
Hot stuffy gyms
Just you, the ball and the basket
I am from lanes 1-9
The warm and cold meets
that's what I live and die for
Pushing myself to work harder
Pass the people in front of me
Don't let the others pass me
No matter the outcome
It is all for the man upstairs
I am from spending time with family and friends
All the holiday gatherings
Good food and drinks
Joking, board games and cards
Going out and staying late
Playing basketball in the headlights
Calling each other names
This is where I am from
